Background of the Study:
In Isiala Ngwa North Local Government, healthcare delivery is characterized by a coexistence of traditional practices and modern medical systems. Traditional healthcare, rooted in indigenous knowledge and local herbal remedies, continues to serve a significant segment of the population, especially in rural areas (Ndukwe, 2023). However, the integration of traditional and modern healthcare systems has been fraught with challenges such as differing philosophies, regulatory constraints, and issues of trust between practitioners (Uche, 2024). While modern healthcare emphasizes scientific validation and standardized practices, traditional medicine relies on experiential knowledge and holistic approaches. This divergence has often led to fragmented healthcare delivery and potential conflicts. The study explores these challenges, assessing how both systems can complement one another to improve overall health outcomes and ensure that culturally appropriate practices are maintained alongside modern medical advancements (Ibe, 2025).
Statement of the Problem:
The coexistence of traditional and modern healthcare systems in Isiala Ngwa North is marked by challenges, including regulatory conflicts, mutual distrust, and inadequate integration. These issues hamper the potential for a synergistic healthcare model that can serve the community effectively.
